Carrara marble | Marmo di Carrara

Today we would like to write about one of the most beautiful types of marble world wide: Carrara Marble!

If you don't know, Carrara is a small town in Tuscany, Italy. This location is 15 minutes from the sea and 15 minutes from the Apuane Alps where the Carrara marble quarries are located!

It became very popular when Michelangelo Buonarrotti used the Carrara marble for his majestic sculpture " La Pietà". Many artists, sculptors and architects tend to use this type of marble because of its purity.

Carrara marble is a type of very pure white marble that goes to a light grey colour that can have beautiful grey veins.

There are different types of Carrara marble that diversify from the colour of the background or the type and colour of its veins.

We will try to give you a small concise description of them:

The type of marble with a mostly white background is called "Marmo di Carrara C" instead the type with a light grey background is called "Marmo di Carrara CD".

The "Statuario marble" is another kind of Carrara marble which is pure white with or without light grey veins and it's the marble that, for example, Michelangelo used.

If the background tends to be ivory and the veins go from a light grey to a yellow, even to a green, here we have another famous kind that is "Calacatta marble".

If the light grey veins look like nerve fibres we have the majestic "Arabescato Marble".

And last but not least if the background is dark grey and tends to be even blue we have "Bardiglio Marble".

All of these can be used for stairs, countertops, floors and wall tilings and much more.

The only thing is that all marble is very sensitive and delicate so you have to be cautious with it!

Oggi vorremmo parlare di uno dei marmi più belli al mondo: il marmo di Carrara!

Se non lo sai, Carrara è una piccola città della Toscana, in Italia. Questa località dista 15 minuti dal mare e 15 minuti dalle Alpi Apuane dove si trovano le cave di marmo di Carrara!

Divenne molto popolare quando Michelangelo Buonarrotti utilizzò il marmo di Carrara per la sua maestosa scultura "La Pietà". Molti artisti, scultori e architetti tendono a utilizzare questo tipo di marmo a causa della sua purezza.

Il marmo di Carrara è un tipo di marmo bianco molto puro che va ad un colore grigio chiaro il quale può avere bellissime venature grigie.

Esistono diversi tipi di marmo di Carrara che si differenziano tra loro per il colore del fondo o per il tipo e il colore delle sue venature.

Cercheremo di darvi una piccola descrizione concisa :

Il tipo di marmo con fondo prevalentemente bianco è denominato "Marmo di Carrara C" invece il tipo con fondo grigio chiaro è denominato "Marmo di Carrara CD".

Il "marmo Statuario" è un altro tipo di marmo di Carrara che è bianco puro con o senza venature grigio chiaro ed è il marmo che, ad esempio, Michelangelo ha utilizzato.

Se lo sfondo tende ad essere avorio e le venature vanno dal grigio chiaro al giallo, fino al verde, ecco un altro tipo famoso che è il "marmo Calacatta".

Se le venature grigio chiaro sembrano fibre nervose abbiamo il maestoso "Marmo Arabescato".

Infine se lo sfondo è grigio scuro e tende ad essere anche blu abbiamo il "Marmo Bardiglio".

Tutti questi possono essere utilizzati per scale, controsoffitti, pavimenti e rivestimenti e molto altro ancora.

L'unica cosa è che tutto il marmo è molto sensibile e delicato, quindi devi essere estremamente cauto!
